World renowned Michelin star chef Dani Garcia plans to open a fourth restaurant in Marbella. The Spanish chef now has five restaurants across Spain, though he clearly prefers to house his restaurants amidst the glitz and glamour associated with his home town Marbella.
The new Marbella venue is called ‘Lobito de Mar’ and will officially open in June 2017. It’s located in the old El Portalon restaurant in front of the Marbella Club Hotel, close to the Puente Romano hotel where two of the chef's other offerings, Dani Garcia Restaurante and BiBo, can be found. The offices of Marbella Living are 100 meters away in the same street so we hope to be spending some time in what promises to be a top quality eatery.
The chosen site has seen quite a bit of change recently; El Portalon was situated there for 25 years before closing in January 2016. Its successor, La Parrilla Grill, didn't quite experience the same long run of success, closing down less than a year after it opened. Though while Marbella sees plenty of restaurants come and go every year, Garcia's already established success suggests that his new venture is set to have more staying power.
Garcia's signature culinary style is an Andalucian twist on seafood classics, as well as being famous for his tapas, though he is not one to shy away from more experimental cooking methods! While many may call Heston Blumenthal to mind when thinking of cutting edge cooking techniques, it was actually Garcia who first pioneered the use of liquid nitrogen in cooking, using freezing temperatures of minus 196 degrees to create unique dishes.
